I have had the great pleasure of knowing Randy for 20 yrs ... as his neighbor. He and his wife Kim ( who has been recognized in the past as a National Caregiver of The Year ) and their two children live across from my vacation/ 2nd base home for work.
Randy is a retired Marine Major with ALS (diagnosed 1995)
He is not a quitter.
There are many stories about him and even a post I wrote last year with the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Today I wanted to share one of the things Randy loves...... The beach !
He is a daily visitor of our neighborhood access in Ocean Oaks Subdivision , Emerald Isle NC. Many years ago the community built a platform for his wheelchair and provide a place for his nurses to sit with him and soak up the sun.
We look for him as we get closer to the end of the boardwalk that takes us over the dunes.
On the left you will find Randy getting his frequent application of sunscreen and usually a neighbor chatting with him or a nurse reading to him.
The access is dedicated to him... RANDY'S WAY.

last year for Bucket Challenge.
Left to Rt: Kim & Randy , Jeff & Me, Randys Nurse.
If you want to learn more about ALS, research efforts and how to donate, please go to the NC state chapter so the money can be used locally to help people like Randy.
Google "Randy Hebert ALS" to read more inspiring stories.
