What does Home Staging look like in Ireland?

On a recent visit to Ireland, I eagerly looked forward to visiting two staged model homes in a subdivision near the city of Limerick.

Last Sunday with camera in hand I snapped some photos and was interested to see what home staging in Ireland and in the US had in common and how it differed.  For the most part, it was quite similar but a few differences stood out.

To begin with, Irish homes are not made of wood because they don't believe it's sturdy enough to hold up over time!  Most homes are concrete block construction.

There were no coffee tables or end tables in the living rooms of these mid-range new homes .... likely because the space was tight?

The price for these compact new homes is about $400,000 depending on what finishes were included and if the "expanded kitchen" was specified. These homes are close to the University of Limerick campus as well as to a myriad of US companies with offices in Ireland.  Both model homes were crowded and people were putting in orders on the spot while some will have to wait until the subdivision is completed .. this was Phase 2 of a larger development called Evanwood.

As an expert home stager based in Portland OR, it's always interesting to visit homes for sale in other countries to see how they present their properties!

What a great experience, Maureen. Lucky you! I suppose now you can write off your trip as a business expense.

It's interesting to see what is being done in other parts of the world, but I wouldn't want people to judge all of American home staging based on one or two staged homes. I've seen some "staged" homes that really fell flat.

Love that bread box in the kitchen!

Hi Janelle Ancillotti  ... this is the second trip to Ireland where I visited some model homes.  The previous ones I Isaw a few years ago were very similar in style to these two, without coffee tables.  They could use glass-top tables and the rooms would seem larger, I think.

Maureen, it's an excellent idea to see how homes are staged in other countries.   The living room looks cozy and comfortable.  I like the "homey" feel of the table setup.  Great job on taking those pictures!

Thanks, Regina.  It's always interesting to see homes in other places .... since I lived in Ireland for about eight years, it's fun to return and see their model homes.

I can see the similarities and some of the differences. One thing for sure is that staging makes it look good and helps people make decisions to buy.

You're right Debbie Reynolds that staging makes these model homes look good ... otherwise builders wouldn't have been doing it for the past 50+ years.  I remember my parents taking me to a model home in our town of Carmel, CA when I was in first grade. It made a big impression on me but I never could have imagined that someday I'd be staging model homes myself!

I've come to the conclusion that coffee tables are totally not needed. They do look very similar to US homes. In Florida, the homes are made of concrete block and stucco.

Toni Weidman when I first moved to Ireland in 1996, I remember being so surprised when people there asked, "how can you feel safe living in a house that's only made of wood?"   I guess they thought it might blow down, but I've never lived in a hurricane or tornado area so wood homes held up just fine.

Hi Maureen...It was interesting to see the color palette used in these two homes, very similar to what is in vogue here. I'm glad to see that they realize the value of staging also. Sure does make a difference.

Hi Kate Elim  .... I noticed the similarity in color trends here and there, too.  Staging is mostly used in builder's models in new subdivisions, and hasn't  yet spread to resale homes.  But there's always hope!

Maureen, this is quite interesting, and seeing no end tables for the lamps is quite different.

The decorating looks outdated to me, sort of 90's neutral?  Too much furniture in the rooms, which look sort of smallish.  Interesting to see what is happening in other parts of the world.  Great photography, Maureen !
