Motivational Monday: After Reading This You May Rethink Meditation

How many of you meditate? I do my best to make this part of my daily routine when I awake in the morning, before going to sleep and sometimes even mid-day. The individual and social impact of meditation is greatly beneficial. People are more "grounded," calmer, handle stress better, are less reactive (triggering aggression, etc). 

 

The lead researcher, Gemma O'Brien found that people meditating and having an orgasm both experience "diminution of self-awareness" and "alterations in bodily perception."

  

When you meditate, the left side of your brain lights up and when you have sex, the right side of your brain lights up -- both experiences leading to a stoppage of mental chatter in your brain and helping you lose physical and mental boundaries. Research courtesy of Mind, Body, Green.

 

Message of the day, week, month and years to come, Meditate. Find a practice that works for you. Let that be stillness and focusing on breath, guided meditation, moving meditation, its all beneficial.

Great post! in today's world we have difficulty slowing down. If you have ever read some of the leading business books of the past (pre-1970's) they all ascribe to having some place to go without distraction and rest. It is amazing what the brain does when you can let it rest...without sleeping.

You've given us great food for thought, Laura. When I go for a solo hike, or a slow jog my mind quiets enough for thoughts to flow freely, problems to solve themselves, and I return home calmer than before. Yoga and a more formal meditation does the same.

Laura- I am working on meditating, but the best I can do are my Yoga breaths.  I keep trying though.

At the moment, I have a very much pre-meditation mind.  What gets me is that I was having a calm day and evening until I allowed someone to call and start yelling at me about what my neighbors didn't do.  I can't much control that, it's several layers away from me.  I can control how I feel, though that skill is escaping me at the moment.
