Memorial Day Houston 2015

What better way to spend your Memorial Day weekend than with some fun in the sun (or let’s at least hope the weather cooperates)!

Head to Galveston and make a day of it at the new Pleasure Pier or enjoy some time in Kemah or even the Downtown Aquarium. Three Parks - One Pass for $49.99. Enjoy unlimited visits on Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday to the Pleasure Pier, Kemah Boardwalk and Downtown Aquarium Houston. That’s 4 days of fun in the sun!!!

Head to the beach (yeah it will be crowded) but I’m sure you can still find a tranquil spot for you and your loved ones to enjoy some cool breezes and sand in between your toes! Make a day of it and enjoy a lunch at my favorite place to eat in Galveston, THE SPOT! Anytime I am in Galveston I make an excuse to go to The Spot!

If you are thinking about staying more local and would rather not be around the crowds a good idea would be to enjoy a relaxing day at the neighborhood pool. Many (If not all) neighborhood pools will be open this weekend. This is also a great way to enjoy time with your family and friends without being part of a huge crowd!

If you have plans to head to a Memorial Day Party don’t come empty handed bring a treat everyone will love! I skimmed the internet for some yummy recipes and I have added a few below. Click on the links to see full recipe.

Flag Cake

This patriotic-themed cake makes a stunningly delicious centerpiece on any summer celebration table. To honor our troops, pass it along to all your family and friends! —Taste of Home Test Kitchen.

Crispy Star Pops

These patriotic pops are a hit at our annual Fourth of July get-together. Serve them as an after-picnic dessert. Or slip them into cellophane bags, tie on ribbons and give them as favors.—Colleen Sturma, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Star-Spangled Fruit Tart

This crispy, creamy dessert is perfect for a Fourth of July celebration! With patriotic colors and a light, fluffy filling, this summery delight will be the hit of your get-together. —Renae Moncur, Burley, Idaho

Five Star Brownies

There's a bit of my state's history behind these brownies' name and shape. In 1990, when I entered them at our state fair, Kansas was celebrating the 100th birthday of a famous native son...Dwight Eisenhower. In fact, that occasion was the theme of the fair. So I renamed my brownies, in honor of the rank he'd achieved as a general and cut them out with a star cookie cutter. They ended up winning a blue ribbon! —Pam Buerki Rogers, Victoria, Kansas

Enjoy this Memorial Day with family and friends and remember those who have and are continuing to protect our country so we can celebrate Holidays like this one! God Bless American and God Bless Our Troops those lost and those continuing to fight for our freedom!!
