What is The Neighborhood Like

Big Pines Village (North Potomac) is one of the smaller and more expensive subdivisions. It has 62 homes, all detached and priced between $900,000 and $1,200,000. If you can afford to live here you will find an assortment of well designed and maintained houses. It's located in the northern part of the North Potomac Community near Travilah Road. The subdivision is on Welland Road: Welland Terrace, Welland Ct. and The main streach of Welland Road. As with most of the North Potomac neighborhoods it has its own Home Owner Association, a park and recreation facilities within its boundaries.

What is Going on Nearby

While the neighborhood is one of the smallest is has benefited from the large population growth in the surrounding Gaithersburg area. Higher end multi-use development neighborhoods like Kentlands, Lakelands and new exclusive homes near Piney Meeting House Road have created the needed population demograpghics to bring higher end restraunts, food stores, and shopping and services in general. The development of biomedical research along Route 270 and close-by Shady Grove Hospital has created high paying jobs without the need to drive into Washington, DC or Bethesda. The jobs created by biomedical research pay well but often require PhD and MD degrees to afford homes in North Potomac. Welland, being on the northern end of North Potomac also benefits from the expansion of Potomac Town Center. Once a grocry store and gas station it has expanded to a modern, upcale strip stlye shopping area.

What Schools Will Children Attend

North Potomac residents go to Quince Orchard High and its feeder system or the more prized Wootton High School sytem. Big Pines Village is part of the Wootton feeder system. Wootton is ranked at 57 in the nation and has a local reputation of being as good as a private school. This is the feeder system to Wootton High School for this neighborhood : Travilah Elementary, Robert Frost Middle School then Wootton High School
