[Top Agent Mindset] 5 Tips to 10x Your Coaching Investment

By
Education & Training with Top Agent Mindset

Real Estate coaching has the potential to create a windfall of commissions for you.  But getting yourself to do what your coach says is not easy for most and almost impossible for some.  Check it out...

Picture this:  You hang up the phone.  You’re excited to do what your coach just taught you.  Seven days later you still haven’t done a thing.  On your next call you promise yourself you will do what your coach says.  Your coach gives you a pep talk… 7 days later… nothing!  Now repeat that for 12 weeks and you start to lose faith in your decision to get a coach. Uhg!!  Let’s be honest...

“You are paying for coaching, but you are not making it pay you in commissions...Ouch!”

Your coach teaches you what to do to make more money.  If you aren’t doing it, then you need to train your mindset to take the actions your coach recommends.  Mindset is the one change that changes everything…

Here are 5 Mindset Tips that will help you to get the most out of your coaching relationship.

1. See The Success Paradox In Action

The Success Paradox is simply put, “Your desire for success is met with unconscious resistance.”  You know what to do, you don’t do it.  Your coach tells you what to do, you don’t do it.  You are pulled into distractions and routine matters that don’t pay you commissions.

You must slow down to speed up.  Step back and notice what it feels like when you are caught up in The Success Paradox.  If you don’t slow down and observe your mindset in action, then you will feel like a hamster on a wheel... running as fast as you can... getting nowhere.  Take stock of where you are mentally.  Other wise you keep wasting your money on coaching you don’t implement.

2. Use The Game Changer Process to get empowered

The Game Changer Process:  Awareness leads to flexibility, which reveals new options and gives you power.  You must take the time to become aware of the internal mental forces that create The Success Paradox.  In other words, new ideas, new techniques, and new skills won’t help if you can’t figure out what stops you from implementing them.  You must become aware and...

3. Learn About The Drunk Monkey

The Drunk Monkey is a phrase I coined in 1991 to describe the negative self talk in my head.  All of those opinions, worries, plans, strategies, and judgements distract you from being able to implement the great ideas from your coach!

Learn more about The Drunk Monkey here:

The Drunk Monkey is your brain’s fight or flight system trying to move you away from potentially uncomfortable situations like implementing new ideas from your coach.  The unknown is scary to The Drunk Monkey so it distracts you with pleasurable and typically unproductive activities.  See if you can relate...

Rather than calling that lead, you cruise Facebook.  Rather than get that mailing out, you go out for coffee with an office mate.  Rather than practice your scripts in the morning, you hit the snooze button and sleep another hour.  Let me give it to you straight...

If you understand The Drunk Monkey’s motives, then you can do something about it. Awareness makes you flexible, which reveals new options and give you power.   Awareness of The Drunk Monkey will make you more flexible, so you won’t be so stuck in your procrastination and distractions.  Flexibility gives you new options you can try, like the things your coach suggests.  When you have options you have power.

It might be easier to understand if I say it this way: when you feel powerless, it’s because you don’t feel like you have any options.  Options give you power.

4. Stop Following Rules that Don’t Exist

Following rules that don’t exist is one of The Drunk Monkey’s Unconscious Reflexes (find out more about that here)  It’s a Mindset Malfunction that limits your ability to make the money you deserve in real estate.

Your coach is trying to help you do more business. That means doing things differently than you do now. The Drunk Monkey doesn't’ like that!  It tries to stay safe by following rules that it has learned over your lifetime.  It believes that the rules you follow today have kept you going this far and shouldn’t be abandoned.

Your code of conduct, your rules about life are unconscious and unexamined.  You were conditioned by well-meaning people to be the person you are today.  The problem is that your conditioning isn’t designed to make you a great agent.

Your coach is asking you to follow new rules for success.  In essence they are constantly saying, “Say this… Do that… Follow this process… Don’t be afraid to try this… etc., etc.”

The rules of success conflict with what you have been conditioned to do as a person and an agent. Awareness is the key to letting them go and adopting new rules that will cause you to succeed.

If you don’t take the time to identify what “made up” rules you are following, then you will feel trapped throughout your entire career.

You can’t stop following a rule unless you know what it is.  When you stop following rules that don’t exist in reality… rules that are only in your head… you are free.  Free to prospect and generate leads everyday without hesitance or distraction.  Free to follow up on leads… unconcerned about their response.

Examine your rules, and put them to the test.  You will suddenly open up to the possibility of being a powerful closer… saying exactly what people need to hear to get them on board with buying or selling.

5. Stop Trying to Avoid Making the Same Mistake Twice

Avoiding making the same mistake twice is another Unconscious Reflex of The Drunk Monkey.  The purpose of this unconscious mental system is to steer you away from bad, painful things that are already known.  Here’s the problem…

The Drunk Monkey makes up stories about the bad things that might happen.  It borrows negatives from other stories and overlays them on what your coach tells you to do.  In other words, it makes things up and then you live like those hallucinations are true.  And that stops you from getting a 10X return on your coaching investment.

The way you fight this Mindset Malfunction is by being a real estate scientist.  Rather than pretending you already know it’s going to fail because of a story you made up… You design an experiment to see who’s right.  Is your coach right or is The Drunk Monkey right?  It’s a game.  Who will win?

Don’t be attached to the outcome.  Instead, be curious about what might happen.  Take note of all of the data. Write it down.  Ponder it.  Then present it back to your coach like you are an observer.  You will be blown away with how much courage The Real Estate Scientist has.  Try it today.
