Call it global warming or mother nature. Hurricane season which is right around the corner start at June 1st. 

In order to prepare the citizen for the season, Virginia's department of taxation has sales tax free weekend coming up from May 25th 2015 to May 31st 2015.

During these 7 days purchases of certain supplies and equipment needed for hurricane preparedness will be exempt from sales tax.  From the website .

Here are the list of the few of things that may qualify for the exemption:

  • Bottled Water
  • Flavored and carbonated water
  • Batteries
  • battery-operated lanterns
  • Battery-operated can openers
  • Insulated food storage lunch bags
  • Duct tape
  • Carbon monoxide detectors
  • Smoke detectors
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Gas or diesel fuel tanks or containers
  • Cell phone chargers
  • First Aid Kits
  • Glow sticks.
  • Tarpaulins, plastic sheeting, plastic drop cloths, and other flexible waterproof sheeting
