Sunday May 24, 2015


Cheshire:  The two-mile parade steps off at 1:30 p.m. today from Highland Elementary School along Route 10 to Cheshire High School. Rain date is May 31. The parade is cosponsored by the town and the Veterans Council of Cheshire. Call 203-272-2743 for information.

Middlebury:  The Middlebury Lions Club will sponsor a Memorial Day service at noon at the Middlebury Cemetery on Route 64. The town parade will form at 4 p.m. at the corner of Bronson Drive and Route 188, then step off at 5 p.m. from Bronson Drive to Dwyer Road to South Street, turning onto Route 188, past Westover School and ending at Town Hall for a brief ceremony.

Waterbury:   Parade steps off at 1 p.m. today in downtown Waterbury. Groups gather on Freight Street at noon. Memorial Day services begin after the parade at 2:15 p.m. on The Green downtown. At 6 p.m., there will be a citywide prayer gathering at Holy Land at the chapel at 60 Slocum St. A short history of Holy Land will be presented by Pastor Casey Sabella following the prayer event.



Monday  May 25, 2015

Naugatuck: Parade begins at 9:15 a.m. Monday on North Main Street. Marching units in Divisions 1 through 4 will assemble at 8:45 a.m. on North Main Street near Union and Woodbine streets in Union City. Divisions 5 and 6 will assemble at 8:45 a.m. in the parking area behind St. Mary Church on North Main Street, along with all karate groups and dance groups. Grand marshal is World War II Navy veteran Jules Andes Brinchman of Naugatuck. All veteran, civic and fraternal organizations in town are encouraged to participate. For information, call Kathleen Doback at 203-729-3100.

Prospect:  Parade commences at 1 p.m. from the Town Green, down Center Street past Town Hall, onto Route 69 toward Waterbury, left onto Old Schoolhouse Road, left onto Route 68, to the Prospect Cemetery. Ceremonies follow on the Town Green. Before the parade, VFW Post 8075 will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, and water to spectators and parade participants.

The day is considered to be a day of remembrance for those that gave their lives in the service of their country.  It should be a day of ercognition for those that are still here and also served and made sacrifices as well.

Hi Ed ~ I just love these "smaller" town parades. I remember marching in my neighborhood in the 1950's first as a Brownie, then as a Girl Scout.
