The meaning of the coins...

By
Industry Observer with ARFCO Media

Do you know the meaning of the coins? I did not until a few years ago. A coin is a message to the family that someone stopped by to pay respect...

A penny means you visited to pay respect.

A nickel means you and the deceased trained at boot camp together.

A dime means you served together,

and a quarter means you were there when the soldier was killed.

God Bless you all who served. I didn't always agree with the government but I did always respect those that chose to serve.

Thank you! I remain profoundly humbled and appreciate your sacrifice.

Like the many other comments Rene Fabre that was a fact that was in the back of my brain or that I forgot.  Next time I go to a memorial cemetary, I will look for the coins.  Probably some vagrant will pick them up.

hi Myrl Jeffcoat ... I really didn't either, but several years ago I got curious about it and wanted to know.

Ed Silva I remember seeing a few coins on occasion then didn't for many years than they started showing up again. Maybe it's because the Mt Tahoma cemetery is military, spouses, and children.

Thanks, Debbie Gartner , Michele CadoganWilliam Feela

Bruce Hicks  After memorial Day, the coins are collected and used to cover cemetery maintenance, burials costs, or for soldiers care.

Kat Palmiotti you bet.
