Avon Lake City Camp
will show you how it’s done!
This once per week camp – EVERY MONDAY from 9:30am to 11:30am – will allow 4 – 6 graders (in the fall) to experience some of the important services provided by the City of Avon Lake. Each camp will take place at different locations – like the Safety Center or Pool. Best part is that you can sign up for one, a few, or all of the camp days. The cost is $5/child/camp. Registration opens May 22nd. Space is limited and all camp dates are likely to fill quickly.
June 8 – Police Camp
Tour the facility; go through the arrest and booking process, spend some time in a jail cell, check out the police vehicles; get a photo ID card; and more…
June 15 – Court Camp
Tour the facility; learn about what goes into a trial; then take on a role during a ‘mock’ trial. Will you be the judge? …Jury? …or maybe the ‘accused’!
June 22 – Fire Camp
Tour the facility; work a fire extinguisher and hose; check out the fire trucks, ambulance, and support vehicles; and more…
June 29 – Public Works Camp
Tour the buildings and yard; visit the compost facility; check out the wide variety of vehicles including dump trucks, chippers, tractors, street sweepers, and more…
July 6 – Water Park Camp
Tour the pump house, see how filtration and chlorination work, tour the concession, participate in a lifeguard drill, and more…
July 13 – City Hall & Council Camp
Tour the facility and learn about its departments and history, take on a role of a city official and participate in a ‘mock’ Council meeting. Will you be the Finance Director? …Council President? …or the Mayor?
July 20 – Community Television Camp*
Tour the facility (at the Avon Lake Library); learn about cameras and editing equipment; make your own TV show to take home!
*There are two, smaller, sessions for this camp. Sign up for either 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., or 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
