Historic Neidigk Ranch ~ Magnolia, TX

Neidigk Ranch Purple Flowers

Discovering a tract of property with historic significance is always a treat! A grand 457 acre ranch located on the southeast side of Magnolia is just hidden enough to provide excellent privacy and security. If you asked most folks around here they probably don't even know this ranch exists unless you head to Google Maps!

For generations the Neidigk Family has lived and worked this tract of land. It was once many more acres but has been parceled off over time leaving the remaining 457 acres. The original Neidigk family hailed from Germany and settled in this area. The remaining tract still has the Neidigk family residing there.

This tract has been a part of the Neidigk Family since Texas became a Republic in 1845. In Texas it is getting more and more difficult to find a tract of land that is still being occupied by the same founding family. In the 50's, Grandpa Neidigk put in the spillway and dam thus creating the beautiful 75 acre Neidigk Lake that sits proudly in the center of the property.

Around the turn of the century Fred Neidigk started the Neidigk Sawmill on the property. A thriving lumber company began and is still in operation today. At the northwest side of the property, there are still remnants of the old sawmill.

The current Neidigk Family has built many homes on the property and continue to work the ranch and maintain its integrity. There are stories of Spanish explorers who settled on the ranch and there are tales of buried gold! Wouldn't that be fun to discover!

The best thing about this tract of land are the people who reside there. The Neidigk's are wonderful, hard working folks who are proud of their heritage and the land that they have worked so hard on. Getting to know these fine individuals has been the best part of my association with this land.

There is great history here in Texas and this is just one example of our rich, deep heritage.

I love background stories like that about families who own/owned land in an area. We have similar stories about the farmer families that used to own most of Gilbert. The Morrison's, the Neely's, and the Johnston's.

What an absolutely amazing scene that is.  Especially those purple flowers.  I don't believe I've ever seen anything quite like it!
