I just gave my most important client / my son to another agent.

Please don't take the title of this post the wrong way. ALL of my clients are VIP's to me.  I understand I am helping them with one of the most important decisions in there life. It is a honor to be trusted to help each and every one of them. That being said my wife and our son and daughter are in a three way tie for the most important person in the world to me.

Our son just graduated with his masters and will be working at a major accounting firm in Atlanta. We live in Dahlonega which is about an hours drive away IF YOU DON'T GET STUCK IN TRAFFIC.  I specialize in the Dahlonega and Dawsonville Georgia area. I know nothing about any of the neighborhoods in the Atlanta area.  I don't know the safe areas from the unsafe areas, I don't know the traffic patterns. Will he be better off driving or riding public transportation? I don't know. Maybe that answer depends on where he will live, I don't know. What I do know is I want him in a safe area. I know he has very high standards and wants a well maintained community. I know he needs to be able to easily get to and from work.

I called around and got a recommendation for an agent that has specialized in helping people find rentals in that area for 8 years. I called him up and introduced myself and told him what we were looking for. The agent asked if I was planning on doing the leg work / taking the commission I quickly told him no. I said the most important think to me is he finds a good safe, comfortable and covenant place to live. It would be impossible for me to advise him about where to live better than this Realtor. It would be a disservice to my son to be his agent in an area that I know nothing about. I made it clear that getting Chase taken care of is more important than a few dollars.

I can't for the life of me see why people have out of town agents that know nothing about the area try and help them buy, sell or lease a home in an area they know nothing about. I will not do that for any of my clients, not even my own children. The only way I would have been is if there was a unit in a building he had a friend in and he already knew he wanted to live there. In that case I would have let him in to see it and given him my fee as a credit. When it comes to giving advise about that area I am not qualified.

If you want to buy or sell a home in Dahlonega or Dawsonville I am your guy. If you need something in the Atlanta area or any other area I am unfamiliar with I am not your guy.

Good call.  I am sure the agent will find your son a good home. And you can rest at night knowing he is safe.
