A Day in Newport Beach
Many are familiar with Newport Beach, CA especially after the Fox TV show "The OC" was on for several years. To me, it is quite simply home and always has been. My family has been here since the 50's, and we've seen it grow from a sleepy little town to a world-renowned city.
So, how would I spend the days as a local?
One of my favorite things and something I shared with my family as a child and now my children as a mom is the Balboa Fun Zone and Balboa Island. The Balboa Fun Zone is located at the end of the Balboa Peninsula and has shops, restaurants, arcades, rides as well as places to take a fishing boat, whale tour, a boat to Catalina or rent your own boat for the day and even the Balboa Ferry.
Recently, we went down to the Fun Zone and played skee ball and a game where you roll 5 rubber balls to create the best poker hand you can (Yes, it's much harder than it sounds). These are games I played with my mom and my grandparents and love that I now share it with my boys.
After that, we stepped outside and bought Balboa bars. Balboa bars are vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate and then rolled in your choice of chocolate sprinkles, rainbow sprinkles, peanuts and sometimes other options. Eating them without having them fall to pieces takes practice and is something that my kids have almost, though not quite, learned.
And, can I just mention the view that comes with all of these experiences? It is all located on our beautiful bay with boats floating along to add to it all.
Then we jumped on the Balboa Ferry and rode over to Balboa Island took a quick walk around and then hopped back on the ferry and rode back to the Peninsula.
All in all not a rough was to spend another day in paradise.
