Many of us have seen the light when it comes to eating healthy....especially if we're over the age of 50.  But did you know where you live is just as important?  Read on.....

In these areas, you'll notice the values people place the greatest emphasis on have to do with being outdoors a lot, locally sourced foods that can be easily purchased at localations such as local food co-ops, health or whole-food type markets, and farmers' markets.

Residents of these towns and cities also tend to spend time on personal interaction and friendship—and that involvement keeps you actively engaged every day.  The air quality, the amount of sunshine, accessibility to high-caliber health and wellness care, and close proximity to art, culture, sports and education all rank high in determining the most healthiest places to live in the United States:

1.  San Jose, CA  Organic paradise - top rated for organic produce

2.  Salt Lake City, UT  Our cancer-survival capital - lowest rates of cancer

3.  Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN  Hardiest hearts - top score for heart health (probably all that snow residents have to shovel....)

4.  Annaheim, CA  Focus on fitness - top rated for access to work out facilities and fitness training

5. San Diego, CA  Work out capital - highest percentage of residents who say they work out regularly

6.  Fargo, ND  Spiritual capital - top attendance in very regular church attendance

7.  San Francisco, CA  Culture cure - scores highest in cultural access, high physical and mental health scores

8.  Madison, WI - Safe, sound & well-fed - ranks highest for low crime and least expensive quality produce

9.  Sioux Falls, SD  The "I feel great factor" - ranks highest for self-reported healthiness, and feeling good

10.  Honolulu, HI - The ultimate happy place - off-the-charts mental health scores...everywhere there's a beach

I am lucky to live in a great rural area where I can grow a large gaarden and hunt for a good portion of my meat in the fall.

Barbara Todaro, you are an amazing lady!  Hopefully you also incorporate meditation and yoga practises for your mind/body wellbeing.

Here's 5 thoughts to become your best:

1. Silence is a great healer. Peace and quiet are necessary to create space to contemplate and meditate. Pause from time to time. Peace begins in you.

2. Know your habits, patterns and beliefs. Various actions can lead to different results. Learn to observe your actions and behavior, only then can you make a conscious decision to change something. If your ego gets in the way say, "Show me the other way."

3. Share experiences, be open to others. It is important for those who are on the path of self-knowledge to know that we are all here to guide each other to light. Do not give up.

4. Be gentle and compassionate. Be gentle with each other, do not expect enlightenment and / or transformation overnight. New breakthroughs take time. Stay true to your practice.

5. Ask questions within ourselves, keep a dialogue. Be in a constant dialogue with yourself. Know why you're doing what you're doing. Save what is useful and discard what no longer serves you in a positive way. You have the power to change your thoughts. Negative feelings are only that - they just exist in your mind, and are experiences that have already passed, so let go of them.
