John Steinbeck who spent some time in Santa Clara County as a farm hand after he left Stanford must enjoyed his days here. He wrote in his book “Travel with Charlie”. “What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”
Over the years many servicemen returned from overseas found warm, mild dry climate and decided to call Northern California their home. With many career opportunities and good pay in high technology there are very few who would not want to call this area their home. After all Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison, Jerry Yang and Mark Zuckerberg all became famous very young. The Valley of Heart Delights transformed from a fruit base to a Valley growing silicon wafer that transformed our life into a world class technology leader. You rarely see another 23 year old billionaire like Mark outside of Silicon Valley. Even President Obama listens to him when Mark speaks. When will he stop wearing hoodies and start wearing a suit and tie?
Do you know it is against law to pick these California flower poppies? The bright yellow flowers accentuate the yellow earth, so are the less common white kind. The red poppies are hard to establish. They are all native plants grown anywhere but where you want them to stay.
The flowers are blooming with sunny days most of the year. We had almost 50 weeks of sunshine lately. With free compost provided by the local waste management company as nutrient they surely make our garden looks attractive.
The lack of rain in recent years this green back yard will turn to brown soon. In the meantime, we enjoy the green scenery. Below is a panromatic view of a backyard stitched 12 portrait photos on a tri-pod rotated 360 degrees around just for this posting.

Gilroy, a rural town is known for its fine garlic crops, situated in the south most part of the county. Although in recent years some farms were replaced by 1000s of Factory Shops selling Coach bags and fashion clothes. In August every year there is a weekend of festivals celebrating garlic. Eating pungent flavored food, garlic candy, drink garlic wine and everyone enjoys having a good time.

While the weather is mild the children will want to be in the pool soaking more sun until school starts.
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
