Old World VS New World

Old world architecture vs new.........

The South Florida area has many many mansions fashioned in the era of the 1920's and 30's. You see their exquisite attention to details in every aspect of the design. This particular ceiling that is approximately 14 feet high features native cypress (no longer available). The wrought iron chandelier may have been painted white recently but the detail is still there. Notice the placement of the small porthole window, this was designed to focus eastern morning light directly onto the crystals of the chandelier-who even thinks of such details now?

Did I make my point in 100 or less words?

Hey John McCormack and buenos dias amigo! The criteria here on AR is 50 words, the 100 words was mine as I could keep going for 1000's on this subject

Roger D. Mucci point was they just don't pay attention to details in modern architecture like the masters of the past.

Marco- yes you made your point!  And yes, I doubt that much attention to details is done these days.  I remember that our first house here had a wall above our sliders in the family room that was cypress.

What outstanding craftsmanship and beauty in those old homes. I would pony up a lot of dough for that chandelier!

It is sad that the quality craftsmanship is missing in most of the new homes.

Oh how I love that shot! The ceiling is exquisite! I've never seen a cypress ceiling before and it's stunning! I love the chandelier too! In my mother and father's house (built in the late 1800's) they had a chandelier and one day my mother decided to paint it. My father was against it but it turned out just beautiful!!! We had a large picture window with stained glass on the top and that stained glass and chandelier lights was just gorgeous!

Personally, I'm so sick of hearing Realtor Comments on tours stating chandeliers are outdated. To me, they are elegant and that's how I want to live out my life, elegant, not to be confused by outdated.

Marco, love those cold ceilings, they do create such character in a room!   We just don't see these in the new homes.

Hi Julie Morales some of them are breathtaking. In the art deco palaces most have multi-colored inlaid terrazzo floors that are outta this world!

Yes! I would love to see more of these and similar ceilings. They are exquisite! I can't even imagine how labor intensive it was to create it and install it on the ceiling. Truly, this is a work of art and beauty!

Looks like museum quality. I wouldn't want to live with a ceiling like that. Simply wouldn't feel comfortable.

Something modern, or at least more modern, would probably be working for me :)
