It's National Homeownership Month in June and here's Reason #5 why you should own your own home:
THE LANDLORD DOESN'T DECIDE IF YOUR CHILD SHOULD HAVE A BEST FRIEND
Can you imagine what it's like to grow up without a family pet, be it a dog or cat, who is your best friend? I can't. There have been very few times in my life when I didn't have a cat and/or dog enriching my life. Pets help children in many ways, including:
Learning manners and responsibility for someone other than yourself.
Learning--children with pets are more relaxed and thus learn more easily.
Socialization--pets give children something to talk about with others and a shared interest with other children.
Nurturing--pets encourage children to be more nurturing, which extends to siblings and their own parenting skills when they grow up. Boys particularly benefit from learning nurturing skills with a pet, as they don't see it as a girly activity, such as playing with dolls, which is how little girls often learn nurturing skills.
Staying healthy--there is a school of thought that because pets can improve a child's immune system, children with pets are healthier.
Building family bonds--family activities centered around the family pet certainly strengthen the overall family bond.
Many rental properties do not allow pets of any kind. Wouldn't it be wonderful to know that you own your own home and can give your child their childhood best friend without asking a landlord for permission?
