IF KNOWLEDGE IS POWER WHAT IS EXPERIENCE?

Theory versus application. Two worlds that are worlds apart but appear linked in some way. I would agree that having the thought or vision is a good start. However, putting legs on it is the real work. Then, to have it do great, productive things remains to be seen. Yes to learning, then onward to the curve part. This is the natural order of progression

HOW TO PROCEED

I meet many a smart, well-meaning persons wherever I go in various fields and practices. Bright, intelligent and eager to assist with products and services. Many principals and clients all start out with enough information to say...I want to know more or dive deeper. The question of how is upon them

I WANT TO EXPERIENCE

That is the experience part of the thought making its way to the on-point position. From that position, we are set to begin the experience part which is learning by practice, trial and error. Life is designed that way and so are the people who live it. How fun to explore, adventure and make ones way!

UP YOUR GAME

However, some challenges come with a steeper learning curve than others making us realize a couple of things. One, we have to up our game or commitment levels to take this on. Focus, commitment and determination to finish what was started is now seriously upon us. Are we able to rise to the occasion?

OUTSOURCE?

The other way to proceed would be to assess it for an outsourcing. To hire up and get done whatever presented itself that we want to have or take on successfully. This involves knowing ones self and our limitations and failing that, some take on more than they can handle. Overwhelmed? Maybe

EXAMPLE GIVEN

I remember going river rafting for the first time. Scary but exciting and our guide was one of the best. After several hours of being in the rapids and under professional care, I decided to come back the next day and do this on my own. I did and had a ball. I customized the experience for myself

CALCULATE THE RISK

Consider this however. If I was to go out first time alone and without professional care and guidance, what would have happened? One mistake could be easily be a serious mistake or turn into something of huge regret and misfortune. Somethings may not offer a second chance. Who is to say?

FAMILIARITY

Knowledge is not enough but it is just enough to get one in trouble if one doesn't realize the experience part of the endeavor. Being familiar with anything new or different as we come across it gives on another valuable point of view that isn't available from having just common knowledge about it

BIG TICKET ITEMS

Real Estate is one of those subjects where you know just enough to know nothing and this message comes in on the first storm to hit. The medical profession is another industry where take two aspirins and call me in the morning may not be the remedy. How would we know?

OBJECTION?

Let's not leave out the legal profession either. We all believe that we can speak-up and either accuse or deny when it is our turn but we remain oblivious to the procedures or protocol to do so. Sympathy and guessing doesn't work well in a court of law. Knowledge here is just the beginning of knowing nothing

THE KNOW ON THE GO

Experience finishes what knowledge begins to a fine sharp honed edge where when wielded will cut through anything allowing one to advance, make progress and realize the intended result without risking unnecessarily. A call for help, counsel or guidance is considered wisdom in many situations

CHOICE

Remember, on some things you don't get to do-over or walk-away from undamaged. They come with a price that many find too steep to pay. Knowing the difference between knowledge and experience is a good start. Choosing which one... is another matter

I know plenty of people that have an absolute wealth of knowledge but they've never applied it to anything. Knowledge without experience, in my opinion, is meaningless.
