Shark Bite on Oak Island

Yes,  I have just moved into a condo on the Oceanfront as we remodel our home of 34 years. 

 

1st day here, Sharks attacked 2 young adults ( 12 and 15  I believe) in the ocean very close to where we are staying.

 

One young girl lost her arm and leg and the other young man lost part of his arm.

 

We are all in shock for this to happen in our own backyards.  You hear of this happening in other parts of the world but not on Oak Island. 

 

If you have seen this in the news, please let me know.  I do not know how far this information has reached.

I received a call from a friend frm New York, and he asked me about sharks here, and we did not hear anything, but then heard in the news.

We have fair share of shark attacks here, actually, our county is the capital of shark attacks, but usually they are minor and people only get cuts, but do not lose limbs...

The only good shark is a dead shark.  There should be a bounty put on sharks within 5 miles of any public beach.  Kill them all.

Yes I know about balance of nature, etc. but there are more than enough sharks in the oceans of the world.

Fred.  many folks agree with you that "the only good shark is a dead shark"...I do think that no one should have been in the ocean swimming after the first attack.

It has been terrible.  WE are doing a fund raiser to raise funds for the young ones.  Nothing can replace the arms or leg...but we want to help. So the area is raising funds to see if we can help them with going forth with their futures.

Sheila...We are so sad.  This has been a  rude awakening of the fact that the natural habitat for the Sharks is our playground.  We need to take heed to respect that fact.

Ginger, having shark attacks is never a good thing. We don't have much problem with sharks in Destin,Florida where I have a couple of condos but we have people that drown and that is devasting as well.
