The Painted Desert encompasses over 93,500 acres and stretches over 160 miles. It begins about 30 miles north of Cameron, Arizona near the southeastern rim of the Grand Canyon to the Petrified Forest about 26 miles east of Holbrook, AZ. Along the way, it grazes the backyard of the Wupatki National Monument Indian Ruins. The Painted Desert derives its name for the multitude of colors ranging from lavenders to shades of gray with vibrant colors of red, orange and pink. It is a long expanse of badland hills and buttes and although barren and austere, it is a beautiful landscape of a rainbow of colors.
I haven't been to the Painted Desert in years. I had forgotten how truly amazing it actually is! Wonderful picture, Brian!

Very well said Debb Janes , with a view like that, I think it would be impossible to not be thankful.
I hope all goes well for you Captain Wayne - Rowlett Real Estate School and you are able to come out west, there are lots of great places for you to visit.
Thanks Lou Ludwig , I am glad that you enjoyed it and appreciate your support my friend!
Well, at least you have gotten to see it for yourself Myrl Jeffcoat , not everyone does. It is quite the sight to see!!!
I have photos and I've seen it. Can't say I ever want to go back. I have vertigo and standing near the rim I became pretty ill and it took me days to recover. But that aside it was of the most magnificent creations of God I've ever seen.

Sounds like too much of a price to pay to see it in person Tammy Lankford , you are wise to rely on the pictures. I hope your weekend is being enjoyed!
This is a beautiful area and I have visited Painted Desert and Petrified Forest. I need to go back. Maybe this winter would be a good time.

America the Beautiful. Whether the Painted Desert, the botanical gardens, the Cascades or the Smokies, lakes and streams we take each as its own identity and value it.

You are so right Dwight Puntigan , so many great places to visit within our own country, it would be fun to just travel around and see them all.
The desert southwest has a lot more color than people realize. And as the sun moves across the sky, the show on the ground takes on different looks. Nice pic!

It would make a great jigsaw puzzle Bob "RealMan" Timm , she previously had one of her photos turned into a jigsaw puzzle. I wrote a blog post about it, if you can find it. It was entitled "jigsaw puzzle", I believe.
