Everyone loves space for entertaining friends and family, but many feel the layout of their home does not provide the space needed to properly entertain. Create a new space for entertaining by recreating and improving your outdoor space. These simple tips will create the perfect space for entertaining, while improving the value of your home.
Visual Appearance- When your outdoor space is bland, or without landscape, it does not feel like the purpose for the space is established. Add accents such as fountains, sculptures, or plants on stands to make the outdoor space stand out. Visit antique stores or other venues to find unique items to add or reclaim within your outdoor space that are inexpensive, but visually intriguing.
Create a Room- Furniture placement helps to create the sense or feeling of an outdoor room and not just being outside in the lawn. Use a table and chairs within the center of the area and build other stations around the focal point. Other stations can include a bar or drink area, lounge area, grilling or cooking station, and an outdoor fireplace or fire pit. Consider adding a kid friendly area with toys or activities if your guests include children.
Access to Indoors- Your outdoor space should maintain easy access to the indoors. Consider what area of the home your guests and you will need access to the most while using the outdoor space, and align your outdoor space with the closest entry to that portion of your home. Guests will need access to a bathroom, and for cooking you will need access to the kitchen. Building the outdoor space with proper indoor access improves the functionality, and makes the space feel like an extension of the home.
Privacy- A sense of seclusion or privacy makes the outdoor space more inviting to guests, and for you to use as a place of relaxation after a day of work. Review the possible areas of your space where neighbors can see easily or outside noise may interfere. Add shrubs, small trees, or lattice with a climbing vine or flowering plant to make the area feel like your own private oasis.
