Flooding rains can damage homes and businesses in Bronxville, NY 10708 -- How is outlook for 2015 hurricane season?

Hurricane Bill flooded parts of Texas last week and then came our way as a Tropical Storm. Those damaging winds and "T-storms" this weekend were the tail end of Bill. So, I looked at the remainder of our 2015 Hurricane Season -- that began June 1st -- to see if we need to keep our eye on the sky in Westchester County.
NOAA, or the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration is calling for a normal to below - average season for the U.S. -- Hooray! Our typical hurricane season runs from early June through November 20th. Remember that Sandy hit our area in early November 2012.
The height of hurricane season in the U.S. is from mid-August through late October. Here's the low-down on low pressure off of the coast of Africa -- that moves comes East to West and sometimes hits the continental U.S. via the Atlantic Ocean:
NOAA is predicting a 70 percent likelihood of 6 to 11 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 3 to 6 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including zero to 2 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher). While a below-normal season is likely (70 percent), there is also a 20 percent chance of a near-normal season, and a 10 percent chance of an above-normal season.
So, the rundown is that coastal areas -- like ours in New York, the Jersey shore and along the Long Island Sound -- could see six to 11 tropical storms.
That's the result of up to six hurricanes coming our way, but only two becoming "major" storms, according to NOAA officials.
We saw some flooded basements in the Bronxville area and in Yonkers, and helped clients cleanup, so I urge everyone to check their attics and basements after heavy rains -- like those we had over the weekend. Stay dry and mold free everyone!
