Did you know that there are certain times of the year that are better to buy large appliances? Of course, if your appliance goes out, you most likely need one right away, but should you have the option of waiting for a certain time of the year, it’s best if you know when that might be.
Most people run their appliances all the way until they die, but if you happen to know that your appliance is on the fritz, you could go ahead and make the purchase when you know the price of the appliance will be at their lowest. This also goes for appliances that are struggling to do the necessary work, like the dishwasher or refrigerator. If your fridge is working extra hard to keep the inside at 42 degrees, your electric bill might run higher.
Most major appliances
For most major appliances, it is best to purchase them in September and October, as this is the time when the latest models are put out on the floor and the later models are usually discounted a good bit. You can call around at appliance stores and ask them if this is the case, so that you don’t waste a lot of time going from store to store.
The best time to purchase a refrigerator is in the spring because many manufacturers bring out their new models in the summer, so the old models are discounted during April or May.
There are many stores that will discount large appliances in January after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is over. Supply might be limited, but do a check in your major appliances store come January.
At the end of the month
You might not know this, but many large appliances are sold on commission, so when the end of the month rolls around and there is quite a large inventory, manufacturers may discount items to get the items sold. Feel free to try to negotiate a deal when you are seeking a large appliance purchase and if you can offer cash, go ahead. You might find that they will give you an even further reduced price for cash.
If there is a holiday weekend coming up, maybe you can wait to shop that weekend, as most retailers will have some good sales on large appliances. Major holidays like Columbus Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day are great weekends to find some potential deals. Keep in mind that just because a retailer says they are having a fantastic sale doesn’t always mean their prices are the lowest. Do your research and shop around before making a purchase.
If you are in need of a large appliance and can plan ahead a little bit, take these tips into consideration. If you are in need of a large appliance now, you can always shop around for the best deals, check Craigslist, or resale shops for good deals.
