Lesson in perception - skiing in Iran?

Real Estate Agent with Progressive Realty (Boise Idaho) www.Progressive-Realty.info DB-17066

In real estate, I often see my clients jumping to conclusions.  Their perception is their reality.  As we start to reach 100 degrees here in Boise, Idaho, my mind starts to wander to far off places . . . how about snow skiing in Iran . . .

I don't like it when people typically jump to conclusions before they have the facts.  For example, when you think of skiing in Iran do you conjure up images of sand skiing or deep powder on top of one of the 40th highest ski resorts in the world reaching up to 11,800 feet?

This is the image of what people think of when they hear me talk about skiing in Iran.

Sand skiing

However, this video tells you what snow skiing is like in Iran.  I was blessed to be to start a ski club for the Tehran American School back in 1977 and I loved skiing at Shemshak and Dizin.

Many people don't believe me that there is such great skiing there.  I have to show them videos like this to prove it.  I just wish we had Go Pro type cameras back then to remember the fun we had.

Living in different places around the world has helped my perception of it.  It helps me as an instructor for the At Home With Diversity designation for the National Association of Realtors.  It helps me teach my children how to grow up into young men.  It helps me realize the need to research and learn before jumping to conclusions.

I hope this blog makes you do a reality check on your perceptions.

Never assume until you know, great artcile. With our 114 degrees here skiing sounds great, I used to do a lot of skiing in Austria where on the glaciar you can still ski year round.

I never would have guessed there was good snow skiing in Iran.  You learn something every day.

I would love to go back and go skiing at Tochal Ski Resort which starts at the base of the mountains in Tehran.  http://www.damawand.de/Ski/Tochal.html I was fortunate enough to ride the gondola it when it opened, but it was prior to the ski season.  According to that website:

  • This resort is the 5th highest ski resort in the world 3850m
  • Mt Tochal Gondola Lift is one of the longest in the world (7.5km)

That is far from the highest peak in Iran.  Mount Damavand holds that title with an impressive height of 5,610 meters (18,406 feet).  It is the highest volcano in Asia and the Middle East.
