How to look for a home stager

By
Home Stager with Renaissance Home Staging & Redesign

In the last few days I have been getting calls from investors and realtors looking for a Home Stager.  Here is how to look for a home stager.  How do you look for a realtor?  How do you look for any professional? Before you call 6 "home stagers" there is a certain amount of common sense involved.

Here are some tips on how to look for a home stager"

1.)  Do you hire realtors with horrible looking listings?   Find out what kind of work a stager does by their work.  Not stock photos.  Look for pictures that can be on an MLS..or a current listing.  This is how to  look for a home  stager.

2.)  Do they have insurance?   Most businesses that are legitimate do have policies, and realtors are covered for errors and ommissions.  Again,..this is how to look for a home stager.  Concierge services and designers are not always insured.  That can be risky.

3.)  Do they have a business license in the city where they reside?  If they have a name,..maybe they have a website,..but do they have a permit or license to have a business? This is how to look for a home stager.

4.)  What are you looking for?  Define what your goals are.  This is how to look for a home stager.   Don't expect them to be mind readers.

5.)  And has the Home Stager ever taken any prior training?   "Susie Sunshine"  may be quite cheerful, but does she really know anything about how to create a plan or strategie on how showcase your home?

I only mention these tips,. because in the era of "here today, and gone tomorrow",  how well do you really know the stranger you've invited into your home?   I've seen a number of break-ins in the last 5 years, and I often wonder how they could have been avoided.  Appliances, furniture and even wine holders were  stolen.  No one listened to me,... so I'm telling all of you who are looking for a Home Stager... this is how to look for a home stager.    If you don't know the industry standard,.. and there are none, then use common sense like you would in any other transaction.

Erik,..it's always good to think about how you look for any professional.  Do you want a rookie, who may be cutting corners?   Or do you want a professional who knows how to get the job done, and has samples of their work??

Hi Liz Murray ,   I'm curious... do find greater success staging a vacant home as compared to a home with the owner's primary furnishings?
