Yesterday's evening news featured a story about a homeless man who found a purse with $400 in it. Without a doubt he could have used that money. But without a moment's hesitation, he turned it in to authorities. The person who lost it couldn't have needed it more herself. She is a single mother who is also battling brain cancer.
In an interview, he said never thought about keeping the money because it would not be the right thing to do. He said that it didn't matter to him that no one would have known if he kept the money. He would know it and God would know it and that was all that mattered.
In his mind, his own circumstances were insignificant next to the fact that someone was hurting over the loss of that money. His only desire was to return the money to it's rightful owner.
Amid all the daily news stories of trauma and turmoil, craziness and chaos, this was such a heartwarming story. Sending up prayers for the health of the woman who lost the money and for an improvement in the living circumstances of this wonderful man.
