McKinney Trade Days
McKinney Trade Days is a large outdoor flea market that takes place every third Monday of the month. It is also called Third Monday Trade Days. Trade Days has a wide expanse of activities and products to explore. Many say that it cannot be covered all in one day!
There is an aisle entirely dedicated to buying animals. You can purchase goats, ducks, chickens, purebred dogs, kittens, and many other animals depending on the market that weekend. Take a gander at the many wood and metal workers that create anything from household furniture to yard art.
It’s easy to spend an entire day at Trade Days, they even have fresh-made food! There are corndogs, funnel cakes, Italian food, barbeque, fresh fruit slushies, and honey roasted popcorn. If you have never heard of honey roasted popcorn, then head down to Trade Days to try it out! It’s delicious! Of course there is also a wide market of clothing and shoe items.

Many of the booths at McKinney Trade Days are venders that are local to the community, so come out and support us!
Chestnut Square Historical Village
Chestnut Square Historic Village is a collection of six historic homes, a replica of a one-room school house, chapel and store on 2.5 acres just south of the downtown McKinney square. The grounds also include a blacksmith shop, smoke house, and a reception house and reception gardens. The buildings include period artifacts showing how people lived in Collin County from 1854-1940. The Heritage Guild of Collin County oversees Chestnut Square Historic Village.
The public can tour this lively area for a small fee and learn about the history of McKinney. Tours take place either on foot or on a trolley. At the end of the tour visit the Dixie store where you can pick up your souvenir. Also located on the property is a local Farmer’s Market, visit the website for dates and times. Some of the property is available for events, cost varies. The private garden and beautiful chapel is a beautiful location for a wedding.
Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary
Heard Museum is one of McKinney’s natural gems. It was created in 1967 by Bessie Heard in order to educate children and preserve natural habitat. There is a wide variety of activities available at this sanctuary for all age groups. Visit the native Texas Butterfly Garden or go on a hike through one of their many trails. Go on night hikes in order to spot nocturnal wildlife! The museum is also available for birthdays, field trips, and other events. In addition to wonderful place to visit, Heard is also a great volunteer opportunity, with sponsorships available for endangered animals to help the sanctuary preserve the species. There is no limit to the number of activities available at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary.
McKinney Square
McKinney Square is one of the most popular and entertaining places to visit in McKinney with restaurants, shopping, nightlife, wineries and bars, and community events. Spoon’s, one of the best comfort food restaurants around, is located here! Breakfast favorites like waffles with house-made honey almond butter are served all day and they boast some delicious scratch made pies. If you are looking for a little bit of nightlife, look no farther than Spoon’s calendar to see when they will have live bands. Not to mention their coffee shop, The Garage, is brewing original coffee drinks such as Tune Ups and Radiators.
Top off your meal with an adult beverage, you need only to walk across the street where you will find yourself at the Landon Winery. They offer a large variety of wines, sangria, and ports that are made from Texas grapes located in the Texas high plains located south of Lubbock, Texas. If you visit once and love their wines, sign up for their wine club! Enjoy discounted wines and exclusive parties! One thing you will also notice when you visit them, is their gorgeous building which can be rented out for special parties or even weddings. Also look at their monthly calendar for days they have live bands playing. Sip your delicious wine and relax on the patio while a local band serenades you.
After you have had a good comfort food filled dinner and a glass of local wine, stroll a few minutes across the Square to gorge yourself on a gourmet dessert. Emporium Pies is a unique bakery with specialty pies from all natural ingredients fresh every day. You can buy any of these delicious pies by the slice or whole to take home for later! Some of their amazing flavors include lemon chiffon with a gram cracker crust and, a Texas favorite, The Drunken Nut a pecan bourbon pie.
If you are not hungry there are plenty of places to shop and simply stroll along The Square. MOM and POPcorn is a cute candy store that makes specialty popcorn flavors such as jalapeño ranch and chocolate mint. This is a great store for the kiddos, however if you aren’t interested in stuffing them full of sugar, go visit the Magic Shop. You read correctly. The McKinney Square has its very own magic shop called Main Street Magic and Fun. This ingenious little shop has all sorts of amateur magic and joke tricks perfect for all ages-even adults! There are many other unique boutiques located all over the square for a fun filled day in McKinney.
The Square is host to fun-filled community events such as Red, White, and Boom for the Fourth of July, Farmer’s Markets, and Octoberfest. If you are looking for a fun place for any group of people or even to explore by yourself look no farther than The McKinney Square!
