Congratulations goes out to our own Washington Post for breaking the most important story since Watergate...the story? People are using the internet to search for home listings and neighborhood information! YES, you heard it there first!

I wish as a professional REALTOR I had known that people were using the internet(s) to search for homes and information so that I and other could cater our marketing and information to the internet savvy shopper.

And this made the front page of the Saturday Real Estate Section!

Hey Post, people have been using the internet to search for homes for the past 11 or so years...lets take a trip in the way back machine.

1995 Al Gore created the internet!

1996 MLS went on-line, sure it was dial up and slow but REALTORS and brokerage companies were so excited that this new technology was here that they rented kiosks in the local malls for people to see the wave of the future, and shoppers could stand there and look for homes.

1996 REALTOR.com was founded and now there was a national search available in the buyers home!

Since 1996, each year we have sharpened the tools, made them more user friendly and provided more information to the consumer. The internet has unlocked the once golden key that REALTORS held to the home information and the public domain has created a much more informed buyer that is prepared for the entire home buying process.

So, some may ask, why are REALTORS still around? The answer is pretty simple but complex. The process of buying or selling a home is still complex, the legal paperwork, the negotiations, the procedures still need a guide in order to keep the parties out of trouble.

Also, today's REALTOR serves as a filter for the tons of information that you pull of the web. We help the buyer and seller apply common practices, and market conditions to their personal process. We are they to assist, and help you find your new home or sell your old house!

So I encourage you to use everything at your disposal, Realtor.com, Zillow, Trulia, Washingtonpost.com, but when it comes to making the move, contact your local REALTOR and ask them for their help, it is worth its weight in gold!

(did I just say use Washingtonpost.com...oh yeah they founded their own online Real estate section in 1999)
