I love dogs, and cats matter too. For all of my life I have had a pet or more than one. My life has been enhanced by the pups I have loved and loved me more: because that is what dogs do. Everyday all over the world and clearly here at home dogs and cats die alone, often sick and scared or are euthanized at shelters for being afraid or skittish or just because their time is up. Knowing this and seeing people buy dogs in Pet Stores that are absolutely and 100% bought from puppy mills, where their parents are kept many to a small wire cage and breed until they can no longer do so only to be thrown away or killed, is just tragic. Yes, I think of this often and yes I blog about this a lot. Please adopt and don't shop. Give a dog or cat a chance at happiness and watch how good your life becomes. Today is the day, please.
Rescues can be great pets. Right now is not the right time for use to have a pet. But when we are ready it will be a shelter or rescue dog. We will not buy one.

I have 2 cats that are a pretty important part of my life. One of them (Camilla) went missing in the early morning hours of Saturday. I have hunted this neighborhood high and low, and cannot find her. I can't imagine what may have happened to her!

Hello Sheila Anderson
We just can't post about this enough - you know that all of my "kids" are adopted. But today I can't think about it as we lost our beloved Brutus over the weekend...I am in non-stop tear mode.

I am not a pet person at all, but I also think this is terrible. I hear about it from many of my friends that are pet lovers. No dog or cat should have to go through anything like that and they deserve to have a loving home.

Hi Sheila Anderson ... Neglecting pets just breaks my heart. All of our dogs & cats were considered family. I haven't had any pets for a few years because I live alone and travel so much. But I do care about them!

Sheila - years ago we got our family friend from the SPCA shelter. It is the right thing to do.

Hi Sheila - Thank you for keeping this serious problem in front of everyone. We've always bred our own Labs - one litter per generation and given away the excess pups to friends we're sure will provide great homes - but Sheldon is a rescue kitty and we're financial supporters of our local humane society.

I agree with you Sheila, a pet store is not the place to buy your dog. We don't have a pet right now but we do act as a daycare for our sons dog.
It's my job to spoil him rotten LOL!

I'm so sorry Myrl. I can't relate to outside cats but I will keep a good thought.

Thanks, Sheila, for getting the word out about all the wonderful cats and dogs in shelters needing a good home. My pets come from shelters and they are just the best. I'd take them all home with me if I could!

Myrl Jeffcoat ~ I'm so sorry to hear about your missing kittie. When it's happened to me it was always traumatic. Fortunately, my missing ones always showed up... but I can relate to that feeling of impending loss.

Hello Rene. I'm sorry you don't have a pet in your life now. I too travel alot but have worked it out with a wonderful place. Thank you. Sheila
My home will never be petless again. Right now, we are at maximum capacity, but I always encourage those curious about my cats, how wonderful they are as pets.
