Five Things To Love About Pasadena California
Just Five? Ask any resident or visitor about Pasadena - you are likely to find countless answers in response to What’s To Love About Pasadena, California? The city was incorporated on June 19, 1886 and has a population of around 140,000.
Known as the City of Roses for the traditional New Year’s Day Tournament of Roses Parade(you may know it as the Rose Parade) and Rose Bowl Game(The Granddaddy of Them All). But there’s more to the city as I recently wrote in a post Pasadena Is More Than A Parade, A Football Game and A Little Old Lady. Here are five you might want to check out:
Wanna Laugh? - while higher learning is often associated with the city with some of the most-respected educational institutions to be found on the globe, Pasadena has a fun side too. One example is the Ice House Comedy Club at 24 North Mentor Avenue just north of Colorado Boulevard.
Opened in 1960, the legendary club (www.icehousecomedy.com) draws those looking for a good time in its intimate 200 seat theatre. The roster of comedians who have performed there include the biggest names in comedy: David Letterman, Ellen Degeneres, Robin Williams, Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, George Carlin, Lily Tomlin, George Lopez and many more
Feeling Hungry? -- from a cheeseburger(some reports say it was created in Pasadena circa 1926) to something a little more exotic, there are more than 600 restaurants in the city. Whether it’s Afghan food in Old Pasadena, sushi in the Playhouse District, a steak dinner along South Lake Avenue, Mexican food along Foothill Boulevard or a new discovery in a Northwest Pasadena neighborhood (www.lincolnpasadena) -- there’s something for everyone.
Anyone For Art? -- Sure, there are some world class museums in Pasadena but you can see art as you walk around the city.
Check out my post from 2013: Pasadena CA - Rotating Public Art Program. The city is also home to the annual Chalk Festival(my recent post 23rd Annual Pasadena Chalk Festival Photos) and twice-yearly ArtNight and this post from 2014: Pasadena CA | ArtNight Pasadena Friday, October 10, 2014
Take A Hike - The Eaton Canyon Nature Center offers some beautiful scenery in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.
Check out www.ecnca.org to learn more about the 190-acre zoological, botanical and geological nature preserve. Better yet - get out of the car and take a hike!
And Then There’s The Fork - a visit to Pasadena should include a trip by The Fork in the Road.
Located on Bellefontaine Street where St John and Pasadena avenues merge, the fork is a perfect detour when you're in the southwest section of the city. Look what happened when a large potato came to the city from this post from 2012: What the Fork! Look at this Spud.
