Summer is officially here, and you might be preparing to sell your home in and around the Twin Cities area. Just as it is your realtor’s job to get your home sold, it is also your responsibility to prepare your home to be in the best shape possible for sale. For the next few weeks, we are going to share pointers on how you can be best prepared for showing your home to prospective buyers.
The best thing you can do is to get rid of the clutter in and around your home. Start with the outside of the house. Put away all of the tools, empty flower pots, extra trash cans, etc. If you are lucky to have a shed on your property, use it! Get a few storage bins and put the “stuff” in them and store them in the shed.
Make sure that your front and backyards are properly manicured. I am not saying that you have to hire a professional landscaper, but you will know best if you do or you don’t. Make sure that the grass is cut and edged and that the overgrown shrubs are trimmed.
Remember when you were buying your home, and you liked it because of the way it looked when you first drove up to it? The same goes for your buyers when they first drive up. Give them something nice to look at, and they will want to see more. If you have to plant some pretty flowers near the porch, go ahead and make that investment.
Roll up the water hoses so they look neat. If you have any personalized items on the outside of the home, put them up. Your job is to make a clean slate so the potential buyers can see what they can do to your home. Get rid of all the knick knacks on the porch. Just put them in the storage bins and you’ll be able to set them up at your new home after the move.
