I am a fan of The Profit television show with Marcus Lemonis on CThe Profit Marcus LemonisNBC.  Marcus helps struggling businesses find where their weaknesses are and fix the problems.   He sits down and writes a check for an agreed upon amount for a certain percentage of the company.  His infusion of cash almost always covers debt that the company has accrued.  But it isn’t just about the money.  He seems very genuine and cares about the employees and their future.  He is there to help the business make a change for the better.  Small businesses are very important to our economy and employ many people so the closing of one business can affect many families.

I really like his three key items that he stresses for a thriving business.   I have adjusted them just a little for my business in real estate.

Marcus’ 3 P’s

People-   In my opinion, this is the biggest factor as to whether your business with grow or fail.   For my business “people” are the most important factor.  I am focused on doing the best job for the people I meet and work for.   As an agent I work with the buyer or seller, the lender, the title co., other realtors, the inspector, the homeowners insurance agent, the handyman, the roofer, and on and on.  There are many connections made with people and when you find someone that does a great job, you appreciate that and like to work with them often.   My job for the client is to have these resources for them and make sure the job is done right.

Process- A clear and consistent process is important to follow.  From listing the house, marketing, getting the house under contract, and keeping track of all the dates and paperwork.  There are inspections and disclosures, lender documents to sign, walk-throughs.  All of these details are my job to keep track of and a process that is followed is invaluable.

Product- I guess you could say my product is homes listed in the area.  So what can I do to have a better product?  Important for me is to know my product.  I need to be aware of the listings in the area.  Know the areas and what homes will be listed soon.  Knowing the school districts and the shopping areas, the up and coming areas and the neighborhoods that are seeing revitalization.    Also, I am the product.  I am selling myself to the client.  Will I do the best job possible for them?   I think with the other 2 P’s in good working order and my drive to work hard, I will do a great job for you.
