Not enough budget for the 4th of July celebration? Commemorating our country's independence does not have to be luxurious or grand. Most families celebrate the 4th of July by having a grill fest in the backyard with families and friends.
However, if you're looking for something unique and more fun way of commemorating our day of freedom without blowing your bank account, here are some ideas you can try.
1. Play ball. Organize a game of football or baseball with family and friends at a nearby park. You can assign patriotic colors for each team, one blue and one red. Playing ball not only lets you spend some time with each other but it is also a great exercise and a good activity to improve sportsmanship and camaraderie. Do not let the boys play all by themselves. Let the girls join in as well. After a couple of games, you can sit down on a bench or a picnic blanket and enjoy your food and beverages.
2. Go on a picnic. If you want to enjoy a different scenery or you want to get away from all the fireworks, you can plan a picnic on the mountain top, by the lake or a nearby park. Prepare light snacks light finger foods, sandwiches and salads or even light the grill. You can also prepare games to add some fun. There are games you can download online and there are also mind games you can play on the way to your picnic site. If you have friends, neighbors or relatives joining your picnic, you can rent a bus or a big van to accommodate everyone. You can also ask them to bring their share of food or drinks.
3. Free Firework shows. In some cities, fireworks are totally banned. So if you're looking for some lights and action, check out your community events and catch a free fireworks show. These shows are usually organized by the local government and open to the public. You have to watch out for the crowd though. Aside from firework displays, you can also enjoy free programs and performances.
Celebrating Independence Day is not about the money. It is all about remembering the heroes and heroines who have fought and fallen to ensure that we get our freedom. Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
