Pay it Forward - Acts of Kindness is Golden!

Pay it Forward - Acts of Kindess is Golden! I have heard of people receiving money when least expecting it. A waitress getting a $100 tip. A family receiving a holiday meal, or clothing given to a person who is homeless.

Sometimes it is difficult to separate the people who really need help, from those who pretend to be in need. You know the ones I am speaking of, the ones whose "job" is to stand on a corner claiming to be homeless when actually they probably live a better lifestyle than you and me.

One Sunday Morning my husband and I made a mad dash to Walmart to buy ink for my printer. I decided to stay in the car and wait. Within a few minutes a beat up van pulled next to me, and an elderly man got out of the van. He was bent over, dirty and gaunt. I noticed he was asking people in the parking lot for change. I thought to my self, "That's is not unusal", there is always someone in the parking lot begging for money to get home because their car broke down. However, this man was a different story. I could clearly see into his van, it had junk everywhere, clothes, emply soda bottles, and what broke my heart - was two cookies on the dashboard of the van. Cookies for dinner! Not today, if I can help it.

I watch the man as he disappeared further into the parking lot. I reach in my wallet and pulled out the only cash I had. (We never carry cash since they invented the Debit Card) I placed it on the seat of his car. When I reached in to place the money, the smell in the car was overwhelming - I was then sure he lived in the car.  How sad! You never know - it could have been me or you. After all, we are only one paycheck, one catostrophic event away from being homeless.

I did not tell my husband about the man, I am sure he would have thought me to be a push over. It is said when you give from the heart, it will return to you tenfold. It did! When we got home, my husband had an anniversary card for me, and within the card was 10x's the money I gave the man!

You can see the cookies one on the seat and the others on the dashboard.

Enough Said!

Cynthia Smitherman paying it forward is so much fun. It's fun to be on the receiving end but even more fun to be on the giving end. My family has had lots of fun doing this and seeing people's reactions. It's such a blessing.
