I am sure you have heard the words, "Get to know, like, and trust" in your business, but what do they mean?
In the networking group that I started and was part of for many years made this their main focus. Each week we talked about getting to know, like, and trust others so that they want to do business with you.
Its hard to give referrals to someone that you have not established a relationship with, but how do you get to know, like, and trust the people whom you want to network with?

Here are three simple steps:
1. Ask a lot of questions! Later I will post the top networking questions that work every time! The more questions you ask, the more the other person will talk. The more they talk about themselves, the more they will feel they know you. The more they feel they know you, the more referrals you will receive. Its actually not important at all for you to tell them anything about yourself so long as you ask a lot of quesitons bout them. Really get to know them! It might seem one-sided, but this really works!!
2. Help people like you! Telling them all about yourself and your interests will not make them like you. If you feel you have a really strong connection with them, share that. For example, if they tell you that one of their interests is racquetball and that is your favorite past-time, then share that one piece of information. Again, the more they share about themselves with you, the more they will like YOU!
3. Trust goes beyond a few conversations. If they shared personal information with you, do not go blab it to the rest of the networking group. Keep it to yourself. Give them good referrals. Think hard about people in your circle that might make a good referral partner for them or even a good referral and connect them.
If you do these three things in your networking group people will feel that they know, like, and trust you. You will start to see referrals come in when this happens.
