4 Things I LOVE About Henry County, GA

By

heart

What’s the deal with Henry County GA anyway? I mean, what really makes one place or county better than another? Although I cannot determine that Henry County is better or worse than any other area, I can say that it is the county where I started in real estate. Not only that, it is the place in which I choose to live and raise my family. Since I live in Henry County GA and have become very familiar the area, it only made sense for me to not only begin a real estate career here but to take the plunge and build my own real estate team here as well. You know people say you only get out of something what you put into it. In my opinion Henry County GA has a lot to offer, and in my experience the more you put into the people and county, the more you really do get back! Some things I love about Henry County GA right now are the location itself, the fun, the people, and the growth.

Location

I could just say that Henry County is in a very convenient location, but that doesn’t explain things very well. Henry County is about 25 minutes from the Atlanta Airport which is close enough to get their easily but far enough away to avoid the everyday traffic associated with the airport. Also, Henry County GA is close enough to the city of Atlanta to enjoy all the shopping, restaurants, coffee shops, events, museums, and entertainment city life has to offer, and it’s also far enough away to escape the “hustle and bustle” and constant activity that living in the heart of a city brings with it.

Fun

If you don’t want to travel into the city of Atlanta to find something fun to do, Henry County actually has various popular entertainment options located right in the county itself.

Other than the NASCAR races, the Atlanta Motor Speedway has drag racing in the summer, a Christmas lights festival in December, and the Georgia State Fair in October. The Atlanta Motor Speedway hosts other events throughout the year as well. Noah’s Ark is another area attraction that people love, and it also has an incredible story which I encourage you to read on their website found in our list below. Noah’s Ark is an animal sanctuary that takes in many abused or unwanted animals and cares for them on their 250 acre property. You can walk around and visit the animals from 12 to 3 pm Tuesday through Saturday. There is also a picnic area and playground, and Noah’s Ark has various activities throughout the year as well. If shopping is on your agents, Tanger Outlet Center is located in Locust Grove and offers well over 70 stores for you to browse through! There are also a few places to grab some food or a snack because shopping in all of those stores is sure to work up your appetite. If you are looking for adventure, Hot Shots Paintball in McDonough would be glad to have you visit! I don’t know a lot about paintball, but Hot Shots has one of the biggest facilities around and will do events for just about any occasion you can imagine. If you like BMX bikes and racing you could check out Sandy Ridge BMX which hosts races and offers practice times on the track too. For a day of pampering and relaxation, Henry County GA is home to Scarlett’s Retreat Day Spa. Scarlett’s Retreat offers a variety of different types of massages, manicure and pedicures, and skin treatments. You can purchase these separately or in package deals. Nash Farms is a historic site in Hampton, GA that has numerous events throughout the year and usually has a popular fireworks display on the 4th ofJuly!Henry County GA has a LOT of parks, too many to name in this post (although we will be including a post just about the park soon!), so if you love picnics, playgrounds, and exercising in the park Henry County should be able to meet your needs! Henry County GA has a few farms you can visit where you can pick your own fruit, visit animals, and enjoy some fun activities with your kids. Southern Belle Farm in McDonough is a popular farm with a fun, friendly atmosphere that has some activities for kids too other than fruit picking. Gardner Farm in Locust Grove also offers pick your own fruit and veggies options. If you are a movie buff, don’t worry! Henry County GA has a theater too, the Regal McDonough Stadium 16! This place is where the action is on Friday and Saturday nights so make sure you get there in time to get your tickets!

People

There is definitely something to be said for Southern Charm. I know there is a certain stigma that comes with speaking of things like “Southern hospitality” and a “down-home feel”, and things really aren’t always how they were in the past; however, the people in McDonough are truly friendly. I witness on a weekly basis people reaching out and helping others without hoping to gain anything in return. I have even seen business owners raising money for other business owners who could be considered their “competition.” Yes…here in the South we do talk to strangers, and someone may strike up a conversation with you while waiting in line somewhere just because they want to be nice. Some people may call this being nosy, but I call it trying to be kind and taking a minute to slow down and remember what is important in life…like other people.

If you stay in Henry County long enough and visit some of the local stores, you will find that they begin to call you by name and genuinely seem happy you are there. The support for local businesses is growing at a rapid rate, and the small business owners in Henry County GA really seek to earn a great reputation by working hard, being honest, and trying to give back to the community whenever possible. Being a real estate agent in Henry County, I have had the enormous privilege of working with some of the most genuine and kind clients imaginable who I now truly consider friends! Many of these clients have been my biggest sources of new business, and they are part of the reason I was able to begin my dream of building a real estate team. Not only are the people in Henry County GA great, but the growth occurring in the county is incredible!

Growth

Certainly there are more new stores and restaurants opening than I could fit into this one post, but I will touch on a few of the exciting ones! One facility coming to Henry County GA that is creating quite a buzz is the Kensley Grace Aquatic Center! This facility will be a family-oriented aquatic center with activities for absolutely any person of any age. The center will have competitive swimming, aerobics, drown proofing, and other therapy. The blue prints include plans for a huge main pool area, a therapy and training pool, a family pool, and a few other areas such as training rooms and a snack bar!  If you haven’t heard of Sky Zone, it is a huge trampoline park with “courts” covered in trampolines. There are several locations, but now one is coming to McDonough! At Sky Zone you can participate in “open jump” times where you just jump around and have fun or you can participate in fitness classes or scheduled birthday parties and other special events. If you search Sky Zone on google you will see a lot of great reviews about these places! In addition to some of these fun activity centers popping up in Henry County GA, there are also many restaurants getting ready to open. Just to mention a few, Panera Bread, Chipotle, and Five Guys will be opening in McDonough hopefully by the end of this year 2015! Panera Bread is obviously known for their delicious sandwiches made with fresh-baked bread as well as yummy soups, pastires, and other desserts just to name a few items. Chipotle is a Mexican restaurant, and in all honesty I have never eaten at a Chipotle restaurant! What I can tell you is that I’m excited to try it, it has amazing online reviews, and I love that they are not shy about cooking with ingredients without artificial flavors or fillers! When it comes to Five Guys, I have never heard a bad word uttered about this restaurant chain! I have many friends that would drive in to Atlanta just to eat here on a lunch break, and that happened on a regular basis. If you love an incredible burger and fries, this is the place for you! Don’t forget dessert too, since they serve milkshakes as well!

Conclusion

To wrap it all up, I feel blessed to live in Henry County GA. Owning and running a business here has been a truly pleasant experience, and I’m excited to see what the future holds! I love the location, the fun, the people, and the growth of Henry County GA!
