2015 Lavender Festival Palisade, CO
This weekend Palisade, CO will host the 5th annual Lavender Festival. The dates are July 10th to the 12th. Mount Garfield makes a wonderful backdrop for the events in the town park. This is the only festival in Colorado celebrating this very useful herb.
Friday is the day for the local lavender farm tours. You can get more information on the festival website. Saturday is a fun day in the park with all kinds of vendors, food and live music. There are also cooking demonstrations using lavender. While lavender is the highlighted herb, you can also get some wonderful naturally made products using a variety of herbal mixtures.
Sunday is the last day of the festival. This is an informal day for visitors to tour local lavender farms at their own pace. The festival website has a printable form with the locations of the participating farms. Some of the farms have a gift shop with lavender and other local products for sale.
The picture shows what this year's poster will look like. I know I will be buying one. It's titled "Lavender Sentinel" and was done by artist Gary Hauschulz. Every year festival organizers hold a contest for artists to come up with their idea for a poster.
While you are in town for the festival, you might want to check out some of the many wineries in the surrounding area.
I will be at the festival. I haven't missed one yet. I hope to see you there.
