Tricks to Organizing Your Garage Like a Pro

  • July 10, 2015

Do you throw random boxes and tubs of “I’ll go through it later” items into your garage? It seems most garages these days are full of containers and bins of items that often the owner was not even aware they still had. While spring may be gone, do not skip another day to clean up your garage. Here are some helpful tips to organizing your garage now!

Pegboards – Pegboards are a cheap and easy way to hang things along the wall of your garage. While not meant for exceptionally heavy items, it can be used for tools, small shelving, and garden tools. Put pegs in the holes and just starting hanging!

Toolbox – Investing in a toolbox may be one of the best ways to get your mismatched array of tools in order. With unique compartments and drawers, toolboxes are often on wheels and compact so as to improve your use of space in any garage.

Labeled Storage Boxes – Line boxes up on shelving along the walls of the garage. Label the boxes clearly for what is inside. Avoid digging through countless boxes later by labeling appropriately as you clean.

Clear Storage Containers – Hate the idea of labeled boxes taking over your garage? Try see-through bins instead. This way you can clearly see the boxes’ contents without having to dig or label.

Garage Sale – Most likely you will uncover many unused items while organizing your garage. What better time to either sell these items at a garage sale or donate them to a local charity. Make sure your organizing initiative includes cleansing your garage of items you no longer need.

Fear your garage no more! Figure out a plan and stick to it. Set a day aside to really dig in and get your garage organized like you have always wanted

Tim- everyone could use these tips.  Some of my clients put everything in their garage and forget that buyers want to see that space as well.

Tim Carroll Great post and add to that is a clean, freshly epoxied floor without oil stains and grime. It brightens the space and is a positive influence on buyers in making the decision to place an offer.

I need to do the same with my basement storage room... It's been a couple of years since I reorganized, and it is once again a mess.

Unfortunately my garage is full of all the records I'm required to keep for real estate. I need to break down and just get a mini-self storage unit.

Thanks for the comments everyone and Thanks Kathy for featuring my tips in your weekly post. glad you enjoyed the tips. My wife comes from a family who owns show cars and this is second nature to her. Everything neat, tidy and in its place. For me, being organized is a more effective use of our time as well, nothing worse than trying to head to the lake or camping and not being able to find your gear. Cheers everyone to great and organized week!
