Some real estate agents consider themselves sales people. Fewer of us think of ourselves as educators. I tend to live in the educator camp. The things in this business that tend to stop me in my tracks are the things I thought everyone knew. Have you ever mentioned something to a client and watch their eyes glaze over?
Ever heard the saying that people like to buy, not be sold. I agree with this notion 100%. So, for those that like to buy, I see my job as providing my clients all the information they need to make an educated decision. This is where the education part comes in.
I was speaking to a client yesterday about a home we were getting ready to make an offer and they asked me a question about the community. I answered that question and several more that came up because of the question. They looked at me and said, wow, you really know your business. Think they may have felt better with an educator at that point as opposed to a salesperson? I do.
When working with clients I believe that most of my job is to council and educate along with using the tools at my disposal to find a home based on their requirements.
