Those Were the Good Ole Days Weren't They?
The veteran members of AR will immediately have flashbacks as they read this post title and recall how much fun it was to call a shot and even more fun when you had a pretty good "called shot" record.
Let's start with what's a called shot?
Well before the well worn out "like" button, there was "Suggest" button. Check out Brad Andersohn's post for the best explanation of the Called Shot. When you read a post that you deemed feature worthy, you would "Suggest" it. It was really cool for a lot of reasons, namely it was like a peer reviewed journal where your post was supported by your fellow Rainers.
If you suggested a post that was featured, you would know how many of your "suggests" became features because there was a called shot counter that tallied your success rate. Now to be fair, there was some members that didn't get the logic of why some made it to the feature page and as BLiz Spear explained in his featured post yesterday, the "featured post" is still a mystery.
Back to Called Shots Though
Speaking of BLiz Spear, talk about a called shot master, the Spear Team was a top shot master. I mean the Spears had a track record of suggesting posts that often made it to the features page. Another Shot Master was Debbie Gartner, There were a few that were masters at it. Me, I couldn't compete with those champs.
Suggest Feature: Bring it On Home
I sure do miss the "Suggest" feature and wish they'd bring it back. I don't care so much for the generic "like" button, because as we all know, many will like a post or comment that they haven't even read. But the "Suggest" post has a much greater chance of being read I think.
