Bucket of sunshine

Good Friday evening everyone-This is my first crop of summer squash. It was not my intention to plant 6 of them but all they had was a six pack of them when I went to buy them and hated the idea of just throwing any of them away,  Since I love them I will be enjoying a bountiful supply of them and plenty to freeze to enjoy thruout the winter. I have had problems in past yrs with bunnies eating the buds.

This yr I planted them in a different location but did put poultry netting around them but so far the bunnies haven't discovered them. I had two of them that didn't have any of the fencing around them.  They grow very fast. I didn't expect to have any big enough to pick before I leave next week for a 6 day get away. Boy was I wrong. I still have many of them on the vine that aren't big enough but by the time I return I will be filling at least another bucket if not more.

Happy Friday all.

Oh those look delicious! I am glad the bunnies didn't find them. I'm with Tammy, cut in half and grilled with a drizzle of olive oil would fit the bill!

Happy squash eating!

Noah-Moter Nature is supplying a bountiful harvest.

Andrea-I love summer squash and I love Tammy's idea too except I don't own a grill.  I am glad the bunny didn't find them either and there has been a baby in my yard but obviously not in that hidden section.

Sarah-Never had them like that. I cook them in butter and fry them

Yum. By the way, you can use these as veggie noodles. We use a mandoline and cut them into small "noodle" like strips and steam them in unsalted chicken broth. They are delicious with all kinds of toppings that taste great over noodles.

Debb-I learned something new, I never heard of having them like that or a mandoline. Thank you for the education.  Happy Saturday

Hi, Sharon...I thought of you today when I harvested another patty pan and zuchini squash from my garden. Keep on growing.

Hi Debbie-I will have plenty more when I get home. I froze several containers already and know I will have to when I get home from my trip. I will also have a tomato too.

Thank you Gloria-I am very happy that they haven't found them because there has been a small one in my garden almost daily. I picked my second crop this morning. Twice as many as the first one. Now I have to freeze them.

Hi, Sharon...you might want to find a good recipe for squash blossom soup in case this happens to you again this year. These plants are also easy to start from seed.

Debbie Laity -I do know they are easy to start as I have done it many times. Never heard of squash blossom soup.

Squash is a plant that keeps on giving and giving...long after you are tired of the giving.

Debbie Laity -That is so true. I have planted way too many in the past. I think the neighbors hid when they would see me coming.
