The Renton Library Renovation Project is almost complete...
I’ve been watching the progress on the Renton Library renovation since it started about a year ago. I drive by it all the time. Yesterday, July 17, 2015, I stopped take a few photos in the late afternoon. It’s nearly complete and the new opening is slated for August 22, 2015.
I confess I miss the old library, but I am the first to admit I really like this new version and look forward to seeing inside. I think it has a super clean look and I like some of the views of it from outside, you can see all the way through the building to the other side.
As with all things public, there are a lot of differing opinions about the old and the new. Most important to me is it was decided that we’d renovate the existing site over the Cedar River and not move into the center of old downtown next to the Piazza.
Nothing against the Piazza at all, I love that city center park where we hold the Renton Farmer’s Market. But the location over the river is very special and it’s adjacent to Liberty Park and on the Cedar River Trail Park with plenty of off street parking options.
I really enjoy this location. When the kids were younger we’d spend time at the library, play in the park, shoot baskets, catch a baseball game, and take a walk along the river trail down to Lake Washington and back. A great way to spend time with your kids and you didn’t have to spend a fortune trying to keep them entertained!
I’m looking forward to opening day next month.
