Questions Buyers Ask About Homes Before, During and After Inspections
Buying a house is a daunting task. Not only is the process a complex one, filled with twist and turns, anxiety and excitement, but there’s a ton of stuff to know about owning a home itself and how to maintain it.
During the search process buyers often ask about things they notice in a home, or that their agent tells them about. They may be HGTV junkies, or perhaps have friends or family members who have shared stories about issues that they’ve had with their properties. Popcorn ceilings, cracks or stains in the ceiling, uneven or damaged flooring, foggy windows, noisy toilets, and corrosion on pipes are just a few of the issues buyer might have questions about.
Anxiety tends to mount when the home inspection takes place, and the home the buyers love is revealed as being far less than perfect, with a laundry list of defects and needed repairs. Are these issues major, minor, or a money pit?
BuyersAsk.com is a new website designed to answer the questions buyers ask, or should, in a non-threatening, informative manner. BuyersAsk.com is a terrific resource for home buyers, and perhaps agents as well, about the major components of houses – plumbing, electrical, structural, roof, heating and AC, the yard, safety, and so much more. For example:
Where are smoke detectors required?
Where are carbon monoxide detectors required?
Are cracks in the drywall or slab serious?
What can I do about moisture in dual pane windows
Should I be concerned about popcorn ceilings and what can I do about them?
What if the water pressure is too low?
Why do I need GFCI outlets and where?
Are gutters important and why? How do I care for them?
What do I do if the AC is not working?
BuyersAsk.com was created over the last couple of years by a home inspector I have known and respected for about 8 years, and just went live a few weeks ago (Disclaimer – I get nothing, financial or otherwise, for sharing and promoting this site; I’m simply sharing a great resource and helping get the word out so that agents and buyers might benefit).
Does BuyersAsk.com cover every possible question or issue? No.
But the site will continue to be updated with new information, changes in legislation that impact housing (e.g., smoke and carbon monoxide detectors) and other material that will benefit consumers who are buying or own homes and need answers.
So check out BuyersAsk.com for yourself and see what you think.
There’s a search capability to find specific information (e.g., asbestos), or use the top navigation bar for the major informational categories such as electrical, exterior, plumbing, or pools & spas.
And how about sharing this with your buyer clients and prospects as a way of staying in touch and providing valuable information to them? You might even learn a few things yourself.
