Happy Trails to the Lafayette, Indiana area Girl Scouts and the Camp Sycamore Valley Girl Scout Camp!
One of the joys of teaching and coaching for over 30 years at the high school level was an unending cycle of giving back to the community way beyond the hours of the school day.
Keller Williams Realty in Lafayette, Indiana had the honor of helping the Lafayette area Girls Scouts by helping with some much needed outdoor projects at Camp Sycamore Valley about seven miles east of downtown Lafayette.
The outdoor projects for this full work day included: cleaning around the swimming pool, trimming trees, pulling weeds, raking dirt, staining a new bridge, and spreading crushed limestone to make new trails.
The most challenging task was spreading the piles of limestone to make about 500 yards of new trails, and since I had only three hours of time I could contribute before afternoon appointments this called for some COOL HAND LUKE chain gang power spreading!
I am not sure if my colleagues caught on with the quickened pace, but I did set a goal to have all the piles spread before having to leave for my afternoon appointments and we did accomplish our task! Our Keller Williams real estate agents accomplished all the requested work and then some.
I have to admit I was huffing and puffing a little at the end with the Paul Newmanesque pace, but physical work is always good and the kid still has it!
What a great opportunity to serve the Lafayette area community, get some great exercise, and have some fun in the process.
Happy Trails to the Lafayette area Girls Scouts at Camp Sycamore Valley this summer!!!
In case you never saw Cool Hand Luke with Paul Newman here is a YouTube clip from the road crew scene when Paul Newman starts shoveling the sand at a break neck pace and the others decide to follow.
Some of you may also think that the musical score may sound familiar and you would be right. Countless local TV news stations have used some of the music to introduce their news cast through the last several decades.
