As a Burlington Home Stager, I am expected to 'tell it like it is' about a Seller's home. After all, that's what I'm being paid to do.
It's my job to tell the Seller the inescapable truth about their home so that it can be prepared for sale. A home in 'move-in' condition attracts the most Buyers bringing better offers.
Some Sellers are shocked and hurt no matter how tactful I try to be while delivering the 'truth'.
Today I had a client who had paid for a costly custom paint job about a year ago. This client was not eager to repaint the decor for sale purposes. Unfortunately the truth is that without a more neutral paint job, this seller will have to wait for someone just like them to come along and love the house. The truth is that not everyone will like the dark Grey over the 6" deep stone chair rail with burgundy underneath.
To many buyers this means work and expense.
So, if you want a very personalized decor, think about how long you plan to be in the home. A lot of your ROI for the project will be enjoying it.
IF you plan to sell in the next year or two, stick to neutral colors on the 'shell' of the home. Place those colors you love in accessories that will go with you .... not on the walls or hard surfaces or cabinets.
It's an inescapable truth.
