It is the end of July and wherever you are, it is probably very hot. So, to cool things off, at least in your mind, close your eyes and think about the beauty of Christmas – especially the lights. There is nothing that takes you away to a peaceful state, than driving around the neighborhoods and seeing the yards that have been transformed into wonderlands by lights. Why do we have that adventure only at Christmas?
It does not have to be a once a year affair. Adding outdoor lighting to your landscape and home can have an excellent effect. It is one of the smartest ways to enhance your outdoor space. Turning darkness into light will make your entrainment easier and fun for all.
Outdoor lighting is more than just hanging a few lights. Looking at pictures in design books will help you see how to position your lights for the best effect. A little research will teach you how to create a lighting design by using up-lighting, down lighting, silhouetting, accent lighting and you will save money by doing it yourself.
Don’t forget the color. Technology today makes outdoor lighting color choices endless. Using lights like paint to accent areas of the façade and landscaping will help you obtain a festive look filled with brilliant bursts of color throughout. Placing lights in trees gives the effect of moonlight beaming through them. This will expand the light out from your home and will illuminate areas of interest. Moonlighting is a great way to create mystery and romance in a space. The flicker, shine and soft glow given off through the leaves will make one feel transported to a faraway place.
To balance out your space, light your walkways, patios, decks and pathways, not only to help you see, but to add interest to those areas built to be seen.
Close your eyes one more time. Can you feel the cool breeze and see a dark space emerging into a lighted, magical wonderland? The joy and beauty of Christmas in the summertime can be accomplished in any outdoor area with some research, a little imagination and a chance for the whole family to pitch in. Pooling all the ideas of the family will help make a not so expensive project fun while filling your yard with the fantasy of lights.
