Where do you live? West Los Angeles or Hollywood?

Where do you live? West Los Angeles or Hollywood?

Here in Los Angeles there are hierarchies. Where you live shows status and an indication of if you have “arrived” or you are working your way on the winding road to your arrival? I have always found this an interesting phenomenon.

So with that said here is a little back ground:

I can still recall Robin Williams cracking a joke that when he moved to Hollywood early in his career he could afford to live there, because with limited money this was the place to call home and still be close enough to the studios and comedy clubs. Then now (which was close to his end of his life) he said he appreciates the fact that he can afford Hollywood again. The inside joke here is, that prices have increased astronomically in the past thirty plus years since when he first lived there. Now that he was a multi-millionaire he could afford it again. There has been a revitalization of Hollywood, never the less there still is a stigma attached to where you live West Los Angeles vs. Hollywood.

So now with that said, I figured you would appreciate the inside joke and the Brilliant Marketing from Dos Equis BeerJ Look at these two Billboards virtually on the corner of the iconic Hollywood Blvd and Highland Ave near the Hollywood Bowl.

I love those commercials. My favorite tag line on one of them was: "If he mispronounces your name you will be tempted to change it."

Noah Seidenberg   Los Angeles has changed so much in the past twenty years, supply and demand increased values 'east' of the "preferred areas" as well as "south" and needless to say now we are pushing "north" the values too:)Endre

George Souto  West Los Angeles is more established, pricier and better school systems....Hollywood is becoming trendy, hip, cool lacks the neighborhoods but makes up in new restaurants, bars etc.....Endre

I've found that in DC, and I expect in LA, neighborhood boundaries change somewhat, and sometimes so do the names.  All as a result of marketing, much of that driven by realtors.

But the die-hard, they will insist that they live in the "real <neighborhood>".

So...5 years from now, where will peope have to be in LA?
