On today's Sunday evening TV news, there was a story about the contamination of Los Altos water with E. Coli bacteria in the "S. El Monte" area.

Los Altos Water contaminated with E. Coli S. El Monte area

A check of the website for the California Water Services Co. provides NO information whatsoever.

calwater.com

949 B St, Los Altos, CA

And a call to

(650) 917-0152

also provides no information.

Since I live a block off of South El Monte Avenue in Los Altos, I am concerned.

Why is no information availale?

I live in Los Altos, one block off South El Monte Avenue, near Cuesta Drive, clearly this is the "S. El Monte" area of Los Altos. No notification, except for the evening news on TV. What's up with that? No info on the calwater.com website either. Why no map on the website?

Finally got through and CalWater said if you did not get any notification then your water should be unaffected.

Paraphrasing from today's Town Crier article: CalWater was working on a water main in this area on Friday. Samples were sent to the lab when the work was finished. Analysis takes 24 hours. They began notifying 600 customers on Sunday afternoon. Notifications were not completed until early on Monday morning. Some customers in the affected area said on Monday that they did not get notified. As of Monday morning, Safeway was running low on bottled water.

It seems to me this could have been managed far better than it was in the press. So many sketchy news reports. So little solid information! As of Sunday night, when I checked, there was nothing on the CalWater website. There was an update on the website by mid-morning on Monday, but still vague.

In this day and age? Is it just me, or do you also expect more out of your water company?
