Back To School Safety Tips

Back To School Safety Tips

1. Walk the school / bus stop route along with your kids before the first

day of school to MAKE SURE your kid/ kids knows the route.

2. When you can’t walk with your kids, encourage them to walk with a

friend to the bus stop or to school. DO NOT WALK ALONE.

3. Encourage your kids to AVOID SHORT CUTS unless they have been

pre-approved with you.

4. Tell your children to stay observant and aware of their surroundings. If

they think they are being followed, they should immediately RUN to a

trusted adult and tell them.

5. Make sure your kids knows what to do if they think they’re in danger –

they should yell / scream “HELP” or “ YOU’RE NOT MY MOM / DAD ” and

RUN to the nearest business or back to school.

6. Tell your kids, if a stranger asks questions, they should NOT GET NEAR

the car. Make sure they know to “ NEVER” get in a car with a stranger –

anyone the kids and parents don’t know or know very well.

7. Establish a “CODE WORD” with your kids to identify a person as a

trusted adult.

8. Make sure your child knows they should NEVER go near any adult they

don’t personally know who is asking for help. Some “BAD” adults might

ask for help or even claim they are looking for a lost puppy.

9. Make sure your children know who is a trusted adult: COPS, STORE

OWNERS, or a TEACHER, to name a few.

10. Tell your child that if they are ever in a situation that makes them uncomfortable, they have the right to “SAY NO, LOUD AND CLEAR”.

So sad that we live in a world that even requires this BS

Pisses me off but I agree you HAVE to be street smart and teach your kids to be as well for their safety!

Good afternoon friends.

Thanks for dropping by and checking out the talk that is simply required in today's world before our kids go back to school.

We don't have school age kids but we do constantly talk to the grand-kiddos about the dangers of talking and getting too close to strangers. As many of you have comments we live in sad and dangerous times.

Again we thank each of you for taking time from your busy day to drop by and hope you have a relaxing evening.

John, summer vacation time flies by so fast.  It's important to teach kids traffic safety early on.

In some areas, school starts in  just a couple of weeks...never to soon to talk safety.

Very important tips John. Safely is key. I wanted to be a crossing guard as a kid but never followed through with it.

Great reminder device...what I wonder about is all these impostors who are dressing up in uniforms pretending to be trusted people...heard about a couple recently.  I wonder how I would be able to explain this well to a young is a tougher world, John.

Such excellent advice! Empowering children is vital. I always thought I had to be polite and as a result one of my dad's friends tried kissing me as a young teen while my parents were in another room(he had been drinking). I wish that I had known then to tell him NO, LOUD AND CLEAR. I never told my dad about it until I was an adult and he immediately ended the relationship with this man. Good riddance!

This will be the first year my oldest daughter drives herself to school! We've driven the route from our house to school and back again several times. She's got the google map app on her phone in case she needs it and we even drew an actual map to keep in the glove box just in case!

This is a very useful list of tips for parents and kids, and especially timely given schools are starting up again shortly. Too bad we have to worry so much about safety issues, and not just cars. Lots of parents in out area drive their kids to school - there are not a lot of buses and it seems safer than letting them walk, but traffic gets pretty nuts near any of the schools when dropping off and picking up

Have a great weekend
