Throughout history, the concept of "neighborhoods" has been extremely important, not only to identify a vicinity, but, more importantly, it can describe a relationship between people with some common interest or character. In Real Estate, a neighborhood is likely to have specific geographic boundaries that could be defined by natural barriers ( rivers, mountains, valleys, islands etc.), or possibly man made borders (expressways, school districts, common interest communities like golf courses, zip codes, builders tracts and developments etc.).
Neighborhoods are not always easy to define because different residents may each have their own opinion of what constitutes "their neighborhood". Never the less, "neighborhoods" can still help home buyers define areas of interest, styles of homes, school districts, or locations of interest. Realtors can also use the area definition to measure numerical trends, do statistical analysis and provide solid information to their clients about where they are choosing to shop rather than relying on national or regional statistics. The numbers at the neighborhood level can make or break your transaction.
